Catch Basins PDF Print E-mail

Parking lots can settle because of the Minnesota weather conditions and contaminated sub-grades, this will cause a fluctuation of grades, settlement of the curb and gutters, cause sidewalks and apron to crack and deteriorate.

By shooting grade elevation we can determine if your parking lot has a proper grade to maintain surface water run off. A 2% grade for asphalt parking lots is recommended. Concrete can carry a 1% grade to a catch basin or curb and cutter. If there is insufficient drainage often a catch basin may be required. This will direct the surface water to an existing storm sewer or holding pond.

APPLICATION for CATCH BASINS:

  • Elevation shots are taken of the parking lot to determine the low point for placement of catch basin. Then lot is measured and the distance for the proper pipe to be used. (Check with city and owner for approval.)
  • Use a back hoe to excavate and install pipe and concrete catch basin with adjustment rings for proper elevation and steel grate.
  • Backfill with select granular or Cl.5 material as required and compacts. Install asphalt base and compact, install wear lift of asphalt. In some cases a concrete pad may be required around catch basin.
